SkypLabs joins The Global Encryption Coalition

We are delighted to announce that SkypLabs has joined The Global Encryption Coalition!

The best way to present The Global Encryption Coalition is to cite its founding statement:

Encryption is a critical technology that helps keep people, their information, and communications private and secure. However, some governments and organisations are pushing to weaken encryption, which would create a dangerous precedent that compromises the security of billions of people around the world. Actions in one country that undermine encryption threaten us all.

As a global coalition, we call on governments and the private sector to reject efforts to undermine encryption and pursue policies that enhance, strengthen and promote use of strong encryption to protect people everywhere. We also support and encourage the efforts of companies to protect their customers by deploying strong encryption on their services and on their platforms.

In our digitalised modern world, encryption is the only technology which allows us to fully enjoy our right to privacy. Sadly, this fundamental right is often violated, and in the sights of regulators around the world who want us to trade it in exchange of a supposedly better security. It goes as far as publicly lying about easy-to-verify technological facts. And no, it is not possible to introduce backdoors only for the good guys. Nor it is possible to build a healthy democracy without privacy and freedom of expression.

As being a company which focuses on user-respecting hardware and software, and on empowering people with technology rather than abusing them with dark patterns and profit-at-all-costs business models, it made sense to us to join the coalition to send a strong signal that we will not take part in any projects aiming to weaken encryption, and in turn, our fundamental rights.
